Nexufend: software-based network security for companies

Brunn am Gebirge, March 19, 2025 - The two founders Raphael Fiedler (CEO) and Daniel Hovie (CTO) have now founded their next startup after the successful sale of their company Safing to IVPN in 2024. With Nexufend, they are developing the network security market with a fully software-based solution for detecting network anomalies and threat vectors in real time. Nexufend's early-stage development is being strengthened by SAFE (Simple Agreement for Future Equity) financing from the Lower Austrian venture capital fund tecnet equity.

Intelligent network security without hardware components

Nexufend offers a novel software solution for distributed software firewalls that helps companies to make their IT infrastructure more secure. The technology provides detailed insights into suspicious data flows and potential attacks and differs from conventional security solutions through its innovative, purely software-based approach.

"Traditional security solutions rely on hardware-based firewalls, which are costly, high-maintenance and often inflexible. In addition, in modern IT environments with decentralized teams and cloud services, they represent single points of failure - a central point that jeopardizes the entire network security in the event of a failure or attack. With Nexufend, on the other hand, we rely on a distributed architecture so that there is no single point of failure that could be compromised," explains founder and CEO Raphael Fiedler.

Zero-trust approach prevents attacks before they occur

Many modern solutions such as SASE (Secure Access Service Edge) primarily protect data traffic at the edges of the network by securing access to cloud services. Nexufend goes one step further and protects at process level. This means that the software controls which applications are allowed to communicate with each other directly within the network. This prevents malware or unauthorized programs from becoming active in the first place. Nexufend also relies on a device-centric zero-trust principle: not only users, but also every application is checked before it is allowed to access the network.

"Nexufend combines the benefits of modern security architectures with deeper control over the actual processes within a network. Companies receive a software-based solution that is ready for use in just a few minutes. This makes it particularly interesting for all those who want to achieve maximum security with minimum configuration effort," says Fiedler.

Nexufend is aimed in particular at IT teams, managed service providers (MSPs) and companies in security-critical and regulated industries.

SAFE investment from tecnet equity

As a Lower Austrian venture capital fund, tecnet equity specifically supports start-ups with high growth potential. For Doris Agneter and Jürgen Milde-Ennöckl from tecnet equity, Nexufend is an outstanding example of technological innovation from the region. "We see great potential in Nexufend's unique technology. In combination with the in-depth industry know-how of the two founders, Nexufend is ideally positioned to take a leading role in the network-based security analysis segment. With our SAFE financing, we are supporting the team in the resource-constrained early phase to further develop its vision and lay the foundation for a successful market launch," emphasizes Doris Agneter, Managing Director of tecnet equity.
